Organisations tend to choose leadership who are extroverts, flamboyant narcissists, the psychopaths with charisma.

Here are some of the common traits of the narcissistic leader.

But there is a strong leadership potential in people who are introverts with enhanced emotional intelligence, effective people management skills. On face value they are self effacing, reserved but beneath they are highly ambitious, tremendously competent and they are humble.

Research has shown that humble leaders are more effective and enjoy more positive relationship within the organisational structure. Their true humility is defined by traits like:

  • an accurate assessment of oneself;
  • acknowledgement of one’s limitations and mistakes;
  • an openness to others perspective and ideas;
  • viewing one’s accomplishments and abilities in perspective;
  • lower self focus;
  • empathize with others;
  • appreciate efforts of their team;
  • extremely confident and technically competent;
  • accept responsibility than being entitled.

Humble Leadership

Humble leadership is one of the core organizational virtues that provides the foundation of moral action in the workplace and foster positive behavior, exceptional performance and altruism.

There was a time when top down leadership was preferred, where the leaders were overly obsessed with outcomes and control, and therefore treat their subordinates as means to an end.

This ramps up people’s fear to perform better and as a consequence created negative emotions and less drive to experiment or be involved and more difficult to achieve their own desired outcomes.

A humble leadership acts more like a servant leadership!

A humble leadership acts more like a servant leadership, makes people feel purposeful, motivated and energized to bring their best selves to work.

The openness and supportive attitude of a leader and active involvement to serve the team with best practices create a culture of learning and encourages followers to become the very best they can.

Servant leadership serves the team with great ownership and responsibility and this brings them lot of affinity and respect across the team and organisational structure.

Leadership is a process by which a person influences others to accomplish an objective and directs the organization in a way that makes it more cohesive and coherent.

One works hard to reach their goals and be in leadership roles. But after reaching this height, one tends to lose perspective and realize it when its too late for recovery.

Practice Humility

It’s very important to practice humility along with your competency and technical skills to achieve the outcomes that can be outstanding and build strong interpersonal network to make you stand out as agile leader.

And perhaps even more important than better company results, your serving leader approach will give you good sleep and deep respect from your co-workers and people. This respect would go a long way even when your life would not be role bound.
