Aging Means Awakening to New Way of Life
Truly Live
The saddest part of life lies not in the act of dying, but in failing to truly live while we are alive. Too many of us play small with our lives, never letting the fullness of our existence see the light of the day.
Life is not about how many things we have collected or how much money we’ve accumulated, what counts is how many of our talents we have liberated and used for a purpose that adds value to the world.
At the end what truly matters is how many hearts we have touched and what legacy of memories we have left.
Tolstoy put it so well when he wrote: “ We live for ourselves only when we live for others.”
Aging is the process to discover the simple point of wisdom that life is about enriching the lives of other people and having a purpose which drives you everyday.
All our life we had been busy striving and chasing life’s big pleasures that we had missed out on the little ones, those micro joys that weave themselves in and out of our lives on a daily basis but often went unnoticed in the busyness of life.
We associate aging with loss.
When we start to experience aging. Our skin starts to lose its fight against gravity. There is sudden gain in weight, and it’s harder to lose it again. There are many challenges, physically and more vulnerability towards the decline where all looks like loss of time.
Just be old.
It’s not difficult to recognize the stereotypes of aging. Every day, the advertising industry bombards us with things we must do and products we must buy to prevent this tragic outcome.
The media and marketers don’t show aging as a natural life process. They use fear-based ads to sell “anti-aging” products and services. They see aging as a force that we should fight every step of the way.
If it weren’t for their wish to scare us into buying their products, old people would be invisible to marketers and the media.
One of the stereotypes of old people is that they are all depressed and see this age as loss of meaning and purpose.
Let’s Pause, Change this Conditioning of Mind
Aging is a process of life. With aging comes the true sense of freedom. Now is the time to live your life your way. You can actually choose to live life with a true purpose, a passion that you always had deep inside.
This is the time to experience more joy, happiness, and satisfaction in every little thing around you.
EVERYONE HAS AN IKIGAI | JAPANESE CONCEPT OF HAPPINESS
You’re old, but not too old to live.
This is your golden period of life where you have lived, achieved and marked your life with your success and achievements.
Now is the time to find a true purpose to your life and give a meaningful direction to your life. Now is the time to embrace what you like, what you wanted to do, follow your passion and be involved with life.
It’s not time to give up on life and feel depressed but be your true spirit.
There was a study done why the inhabitants of islands in the south of Japan live longer than people anywhere else in the world believe that one of the keys-in addition to a healthful diet, a simple life outdoors, green tea, and the sub tropical climate is the ikigai that shapes their lives.
Well you are wondering what Ikigai is? Then I would suggest you must read this book IKIGAI-The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life
It’s very important to be busy to be happy. It’s time to be more socially engaged. Meet family, friends and your relatives. Now in this age you should not bother with people about whom you don’t care very much.
You should share your reservoir of wisdom with your grandchildren and with youth around.
Find your reason to be busy and find your happiness doing those things.
This time of life means being busy in your routine, finding happiness in a true circle of friends and family.
If you have planned your finances well and you have passion to travel then is the time to do travelling with your spouse and have time together which you have been missing all this while.
Keep yourself busy in activities of your interest like walking, yoga, playing golf, meeting for cards, gardening, writing a book or a blog, be part of a spiritual group, or just participate in community work.
Aging also means setting some fitness goals. As we age we tend to be less active and stop working out, but we don’t realize this is the age you should be doing some mild strength exercises, daily walk, yoga and meditation for both physical and mental well being.
Also to keep healthy and have a long life, eat just a little of everything with relish, Eat a wide variety of foods, especially fruits and vegetables, eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables every day. Eat only fresh plant based food. Go to bed early, get up early, and then go out for a walk. Keep moving, and see 100 years will come to you.
Last but not the least, the secret to keeping the body young is keeping the mind active. The people who live the longest have two dispositional traits in common: a positive attitude and a high degree of emotional awareness.
Life is pure imperfection, and the passage of time shows us that everything is fleeting, but if you have a clear sense of purpose, each moment will hold so many possibilities that it will seem almost like an eternity.
